Silicone Oils and Its Advantages and Disadvantages

Oil Silicone is high-quality silicone-based lubricating agent that offers reliable, long lasting lubrication effect for your industrial equipment. It can be used in a variety of applications. Some common uses are found in brake linings, water pump bearings, oil filters and many more such application. It can be used as a lubricant, solvent or an oil separator. It also plays an important role in the auto parts market, where it acts as an engine oil and transmission fluid, brake fluid lubricant, gear oil lubricant, radiator lubricant, anti-lock brake fluid, anti-freeze and more.

The most popular usage of Oil Silicone, however, is in the area of lubricating bearings, seals and tubs and cylinders. As a lubricant, it prevents from damage to bearings and reduces friction to a great extent. The lubricant reduces the consumption of hydraulic systems and extends the life span of the engine and gearbox.

As a solvent, it removes oil, grease and dirt from a wide range of materials including pipes and rubber seals. It also prevents the buildup of sludge and corrosion of all types. It leaves a greasy film on metal parts that makes them rust free. It also prevents the escape of toxic fumes during combustion. As an oil separator, it separates oil from oil droplets during combustion processes thereby saving more fuel. It also enhances the life of internal combustion engines by removing unwanted materials from the fuel system.

It is not that easy to find a good lubricant for lubricating grease build-ups on engines. But Oilsilicone comes in such forms that it can be applied with ease to a wide range of materials. The greasy build-up can be cleaned easily by applying the lubricant and wiping off with a soft cloth. There are special greases that are recommended for cleaning purposes. As the name suggests, the grease-water mixture is a perfect fit for silicone seals.

To apply the lubricant, you need to have a spray bottle with an open top. Mix two teaspoons of the lubricant grease with enough water to coat the area to be protected. Use the spray bottle to apply the lubricant to the o-rings and gently wipe it off. The lubricant will stick to the o-rings if you leave it for a long time. A little pressure is required to mix it well with the water and then you can wipe it off with a damp cloth. If there are any metallic pieces remaining after the lubricant has been cleared, they can be filed using a grinder to recover the original thickness.

For those who are looking for an economical way to lubricate their equipment, you should consider using the silicone spray-in type. This lubricant is available at all machinery stores and most office supply stores. When applying it, follow the directions on the container since some of them may require a higher pressure than others.
