The Properties of Silicone Oil

Silicone oil properties and applications are a subject of continuous research and study. These properties allow the oil to be applied in various forms and ways to many different applications. It is used for the treatment of many forms of acne, vitrectomy after vitrectomy, myofascial release of scar tissues, wound healing and so on.

There are a great deal of interest in silicone oils and their therapeutic uses. In particular, there is great interest in the role of silicone oils in relation to the vitreous humor and the retinal detachment process. This paper will discuss the relationship between silicone oils and vitreous humor.

Silicone oil, like many of the polymers discussed here, is made up of three different compounds. One of these compounds is silicone oil. Other compounds in these oils include both silicone oil and silicone polymers. Some of the silicone oils are derived from natural sources such as petroleum byproducts. Most of these oils and some of the synthetic derived oils are derived from the petroleum byproducts that are used to create the cosmetic products that we know and love. This is not to say that all oils are derived from petroleum byproducts; however, most of them are.

Silicone oil is mainly used in topical ointments and lubricants. Its lubricating properties make it very effective for use in friction and skin care products. Cosmetic manufacturers that rely upon silicone oils for lubricant qualities often choose silicone monomer or silicone polymers as their preferred ingredient. When selecting silicone oils for lubricant qualities, cosmetic manufacturers often choose silicone oils that have high levels of silicone polymers, because these silicone polymers provide the maximum amount of lubrication. In addition, silicone oil has low to moderate surface tension, which makes it more pliable, as well as more resistant to breakdown by water.

It's important to realize that the various silicone oil properties discussed above are merely the positive side effects of the silicone oil itself. Although the silicone oil itself has desirable properties, the nature of this silicone oil makes it more of a vehicle for the beneficial side effects of silicone itself. This is why when shopping for lubricants or greases, it's more often best to choose natural organic or compound, organic oils (such as olive oil) over silicone oils for lubricant purposes. Additionally, organic and compound oils are generally safe for use in cosmetics, as they tend to be less likely to cause irritation or allergy reactions.

Silicone oil can be an excellent lubricant, which makes it an ideal component of aqueous anti-freeze, anti-fatigue, and anti-bacterial soaps, and even certain types of cosmetic creams. In this regard, the most commonly known silicone oil properties consist of high melting points, high conductivity, and relative ease of processing into aqueous solutions (such as dipropionate). While this lubricant has many desirable properties, it is important to realize that the relative ease of its processing means that the cost of manufacturing the compound is lower, which can make silicone oils a more affordable replacement for petroleum-based lubricants. For this reason, silicone oils remain highly useful in applications where other oils would be impractical or simply not cost-effective.
